How to Volunteer
If you’re interested in a volunteer position please complete the following steps:
1. Complete your volunteer profile here
2. Sign up for orientation. The next orientation is, Tuesday, May 13, 2014 from 5-6 pm at the Shelter. Email or call Brittany to sign up. Her info is at the top of the page.

May 3 Offsite Adoption Event Boise, ID 7 am - 7 pm
We are so excited to be partnering with Idaho Humane Society for an offsite adoption event at Petsmart in Boise, ID! The event will go from 10 am - 4 pm. Volunteers will help handle the dogs and promote them for adoption.
May 13 Volunteer Orientation 5-6 pm
Join us for volunteer orientation! Get to know all about the shelter and learn about the ways you can help animals in your community.
May 14 Dog Handling Training 5-6 pm
If you are interested in working directly with our dogs, bringing them to events, and/or joining our Pet Pal dog training program then you won't want to miss this!
May 17 *Dog Handler at the Barkin' Basement 2-4 pm
Can you show off one of our adorable adoptable dogs at this event? *Dog handler training is required
May 17 Mascot at the Barkin' Basement 2-4 pm
We are looking for 2 volunteers to dress up as shelter mascots at the Barkin' Basement's 20th Anniversary party!
May 28 *Dog Handler at the Shelter for a school field trip 12-2 pm
We will be working with the 4th graders teaching them dog training basics. Signups available on Volgistics. *Dog handler training is required
July 4 Parade Planning Committee
We will have one meeting in June and will meet on July 3 to decorate the float. We will also walk in the parade on Friday, July 4th!
Barkin’ Basement Customer Service: Tuesdays and Thursdays
If you’re interested in helping at the Barkin’ Basement Thrift Store, we would be grateful to have you as a volunteer. There are 2 training shifts that will prepare you for future service with the Barkin’ from 9-12 and 12-3 on Tuesdays and Thursday
Group Volunteer Activities and Tours
If you have a group that would like a tour, field trip, or to complete a one-time project, please contact the Shelter at 208-788-4351. A minimum of one week advance notice or more is usually required to schedule a group. We try to accommodate groups of any size. Be advised that, because of safety issues with our pets and your group, there may be little to no interaction with animals for large scale group projects.
Mandatory Community Service
We require all court-appointed community service volunteers to contact the Shelter prior to beginning their service hours. Community Service Volunteers must set up their schedule prior to coming in for their first shift.

Community Service Protocols:
All community service workers must be pre-approved by the Animal Shelter
The Animal Shelter allows court-appointed volunteers who are 16 years of age or older.
