The Animal Shelter is committed to reducing pet overpopulation and the needless euthanasia of adoptable animals through an active community spay / neuter program. The shelter offers monthly no cost spay / neuter clinics to pet owners in Blaine County throughout the year.
Animals as young as 8 weeks can participate in the clinics. The ASWRV participates and endorses early spay / neuter practices, in accordance with the recommendations of the AVMA. Early spay and neuter is a safe and effective way to help reduce pet overpopulation. LIVING WITH WOLVES - SPECIAL PRESENTATION Sunday, February 17, 2008 - 5:30pm
Spend a captivating evening with nationally recognized speakers, wolf experts, Emmy award winning filmmakers, and Valley residents, Jamie and Jim Dutcher. The Dutchers have enchanted audiences across America with their story of living with a pack of wolves, and observing their complex social behavior. Now you have a special opportunity to hear them! Please join us for the Dutchers’ compelling multi-media presentation about these special animals.

23rd ANNUAL PAW & POLE Sunday, March 2, 2008 - 10:00am
LOCATION: NEW Sun Valley Gun Club. Go North East on Sun Valley Road toward Trail Creek and watch for signs.
Come celebrate the 23rd Annual Paw 'n Pole on Sunday, March 2nd, 10:00am. The oldest and LEAST serious winter tradition in the valley, the "Paw and Pole" offers Nordic and snowshoe race categories for children and adults. A Silly Pet Trick contest follows the races, and great prizes are awarded for various "Best Costume" categories. This year’s costume theme: “Campaign Tails.” Think politics. KETCHUM CITY WALKS Every Wednesday during April & May, Weather Permitting
Ketchum City Walks are happening every Wednesday, through May. Meet at the Ketchum town plaza, across from Atkinson's, between the hours of 1:00pm and 3:00pm. Make a shelter dog's day and take him for a stroll in the city!
ADAMS GULCH HIKIN' BUDDIES Beginning Date TBD
Adam's Gulch Hikin' Buddies hikes are happening every Wednesday, beginning date to be determined. Attendants and dogs will be stationed at the Adam's Gulch trail head between the hours of 9:30am and 2:00pm. Come hike a dog and find out why the Hikin' Buddies program is the best thing that ever happened to a shelter pup!
SUMMER ADOPTATHON Dates To Be Announced
11 am – 2 pm. Location in Ketchum to be announced. A modest caravan of shelter dogs & puppies are out on the town for locals and visitors to meet, greet while under consideration for foster or adoption. Volunteers walk the dogs around town during the adoption.
2008 DOG DAYS OF SUMMER! Benefit dinner, auction & raffle Friday, July 18, 2008 - 6:00pm

This summer the Animal Shelter will host “Dog Days of Summer”. This weekend of festivities includes the Mutt Strut dog walk/run, a shelter open house/ alumni party, and our annual fundraiser. This year artists throughout the Wood River Valley have come together to design and craft pet feeding stands and bowls for the "Shelter Diner" Silent Auction presentation. The Benefit Dinner, Auction and Raffle is held at Sun Valley’s Trail Creek Cabin Grounds. Enjoy music, cocktails, and a fabulous dinner under the Tent. BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS Dates To Be Announced
All members of the community are invited to the St. Thomas Episcopal Church for the celebration of the Blessing of the Animals, in the honor of St. Francis, the patron saint of animals large and small. The event is jointly hosted by the St. Thomas Episcopal Church and the Animal Shelter of Wood River Valley, welcoming all and any domestic animals. The shelter cats and dogs are blessed as well, and a selection of shelter residents will spend the afternoon mingling in hopes of meeting a potential new forever home. Refreshments and snacks provided. St. Thomas Episcopal Church is located at 201 Sun Valley Road.
